International Day of Charity 2020

International Day of Charity 2020

This Saturday marks the annual International Day of Charity, a day to recognise the importance of giving and the positive impact it can have.

As you can imagine, here at EcoStardust HQ, we passionately believe in giving back and looking after our beautiful planet (it’s in our name!) which is why, all-year-round, we support eco charities such as City to Sea and Surfers Against Sewage by donating 10% of our net profits to both of these incredible organisations.

History

Declared officially by the UN General Assembly in 2012, the International Day of Charity is celebrated annually worldwide every 5th September.

This date was specifically chosen as it commemorates the anniversary of the death of one of the most dedicated and recognisable individuals to adopt and embody the true meaning of charity: Mother Teresa of Calcutta.

Coronavirus has undoubtedly put a huge strain on the charity sector. Reported in a recent article from The Guardian around 1 in 10 UK charities is now facing bankruptcy this year due in part to lost fundraising income as a result of COVID-19. Therefore, now is as crucial a time as ever to recognise and support the work undertaken by charitable organisations and the individuals who support them.

Surfers Against Sewage

Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) is a national marine conservation and campaigning charity, which inspires, unites and empowers communities to take action to protect oceans, beaches, waves and wildlife. Stopping plastic pollution is the charity's current priority.

City to Sea

City to Sea is a multi-award-winning organisation founded by Natalie Fee in 2015. They believe in inspiring and empowering people to make a difference in their communities. By working with governments, manufacturers and retailers, they aim to help tackle plastic pollution by reversing the trend for disposable items.

Check both of these amazing charities out and give them some love for doing some really awe-inspiring things!
